Gachagua reveals trick Ruto is using ahead of by-elections

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, also of the Democracy for Citizens’ Party, on Sunday, September 14, 2025, likened President William Ruto to being a coward, even as he invited him to a political duel in the upcoming Malava byelection.

Speaking on Sunday, where his DCP refuted claims of withdrawing its candidate for the minipoll, Gachagua said that Ruto had resorted to spreading propagada and fake news so that supporters can think that the DCP is not ready for the minipoll.

“The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) wishes to inform the public that the reports circulating claiming our candidate for the Malava Parliamentary race, Edgar Busiega, has withdrawn are false and misleading.

“These claims are the result of panic by our competitors, who have sensed defeat in the face of the growing popularity of our candidate,” DCP statement read on Sunday.

Earlier during a church service in Ruring’u in Nyeri County, Gachagua openly and without fear exuded confidence that he will defeat President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 poll.

He said the first task will be refunding Kenyans their money which the government deducted in the name of Housing Levy and ensure all those engaged in graft have been jailed.

But it remains to be seen if the former second-in-command will manage to convince the likes of Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa among other bigwigs who have declared interest for the top seat in the 2027 general election.
