Githurai Ward MCA Hon. Deonysias Mwangi Waithira has officially resigned from the Nairobi City County Assembly.
Mwangi, who was elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in 2022, submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker of the Assembly on Wednesday, September 17, 2025
The resignation takes effect on Monday, November 1, 2025.
Reasons Why MCA Deonysias Mwangi Resigned

In his letter, Mwangi cited persistent frustrations with the County Executive, accusing it of neglecting development projects and failing to deliver essential services to Githurai residents.
He highlighted several issues, including dilapidated roads, stalled works at Githurai Level 3 Hospital, unfulfilled promises to develop Githurai Sports Ground, and county reports that misrepresented projects as completed despite no actual work being done.
Mwangi said his continued stay in office would amount to complicity in an “unaccountable and unresponsive governance system.”
His exit now paves the way for a leadership transition in Githurai Ward, with the Nairobi County Assembly expected to declare the seat vacant and set in motion the required legal process.

What Next After Githurai Ward MCA’s Exit
The resignation has sparked political discussions in Nairobi, with attention now shifting to who will succeed him.
Mwangi thanked the people of Githurai for their trust and colleagues in the assembly for their support, promising to engage residents on the way forward.
