The Berlin Marathon 2025 is finally here, and the excitement is real. Berlin is not just another city race.
It is the ground where Eliud Kipchoge set his famous world record of 2:01:09 in 2022, and where the late Kelvin Kiptum inspired the world with his 2:00:35 record in Chicago.
Now, all eyes are on Berlin again, with Kenyan athletes ready to show the world their strength.
This year’s marathon has drawn a very strong field, but Kenya is well represented.
Fans back home are hopeful that the red, green, black, and white flag will once again fly high at the Brandenburg Gate finish line.

Berlin Marathon 2025: Kenyan men in the elite list
In the men’s race, four Kenyan stars have made the elite entry list. Leading the charge is Sebastian Sawe, with a personal best of 2:02:05, making him one of the fastest in the line-up.
He will be joined by Daniel Mateiko (2:04:24), Samwel Mailu (2:05:08), and Ezra Tanui (2:07:28).
They will face tough competition from Ethiopia’s Milkesa Mengesha (2:03:17), Gabriel Geay of Tanzania (2:03:00), and Japan’s Kengo Suzuki (2:04:56). But as history has shown, Kenyans always rise to the occasion in Berlin.

She is supported by a strong team that includes Sharon Chelimo (2:19:33), Violah Cheptoo (2:22:44), and Betty Chepkwony (2:23:02).
These women will face a deep Ethiopian field led by Degitu Azimeraw (2:17:58) and Dera Dida (2:18:32). But Kenyans know that Berlin has always been friendly ground for our champions, and anything is possible.
