It was a dead end for two cons who have been making their living through Kenyans’ sweat.

This is after the police moved in and dismantled a fake recruitment scam that had quietly preyed on desperate job seekers in Nairobi.

"Law enforcement officers at Parliament Police Station have arrested two con artists who have been targeting desperate job seekers by peddling fake National Police Service calling letters in Nairobi,” the statement reads in parts.

The suspects, identified as Evaline Jepchirchir Rotich and Jane Chepkonga Chelanga, had reportedly set up shop around the busy Kencom area.

According to police, “the duo is accused of luring victims with promises of guaranteed jobs before taking their hard earned money,” a tactic that left several hopeful applicants counting losses.

The scam began to unravel after complaints from the public triggered swift action.

“Acting on reliable information, officers conducted a quick operation that led to the suspects’ arrest,” the National Police Service said, adding that KSh 330,200 was recovered and is believed to be proceeds of the fraud.
